SoloDogs boards one dog at a time, which is wonderful for those with special needs dogs. What exactly is a “special needs dog”? Special needs dogs have medical or behavioral issues that make it difficult or impossible for them to be safely or comfortably boarded at traditional boarding facilities. They may need more hands-on care than a typical house-sitter or dog-sitter can provide, since they typically have full time jobs that require dogs to be left alone and unsupervised for long periods of time. Since I am now retired from my corporate engineering life, I am able to cater to the needs of special needs dogs and spend the time necessary to make sure they are comfortable and content while you are traveling.
Special needs dogs may include:
- Elderly dogs who need access to the yard frequently
- Dogs who need medication every few hours, like dogs with seizures or epilepsy
- Dogs with mobility issues who may need assistance standing or walking
- Dogs who have suffered trauma or abuse and are very shy and wary of humans
- Dogs who are afraid or fearful of men
- Dogs who are recovering from recent surgery or injury and need to have close supervision while under conservative management
