Dog Boarding for Small, Senior and Special Needs Dogs

Notice: SoloDogs is relocating from Greater Seattle to the Olympic Peninsula – please check back for updates on future boarding services (October 2023)

Solo Dogs is a premium in-home dog boarding service that boards one dog at a time and focuses on small dogs, senior dogs, and special needs dogs. Typically the only other dog in my home during your dog’s stay will be my 28 lb Whippet.

For small, senior and special needs dogs who prefer one on one time, versus being in a large pack of bigger dogs

There are many reasons why people are reluctant to board their small, senior or special needs dogs at traditional dog boarding facilities or hire a house sitter. Here are a few examples of the type of dog guests that SoloDogs caters to:

  • A Second Home: Given the limited number of dogs who are part of the Solo Dogs client base, they become part of my extended family. I enjoy getting to know each of them as remarkable individuals, and my goal is that they come to view my home as their second home. I also really enjoy getting to know their owners, as we share the same deep fascination and fondness for our four legged companions.
  • Limited Time Alone: My dog guests can easily be left alone for a few hours but my clients prefer they are not left alone for 8+ hours, as is generally the case with house sitters who often have full-time jobs. Since I am retired, my typical absences from home are 2 hours or less, and this means I can give each dog guest a maximum amount of human companionship each day and close supervision.
  • Needs Quiet Home Environment: My small, senior and special needs dog clients enjoy an indoor and outdoor space without an excess of stimulation and sounds, such as many unfamiliar people coming and going, children running around, or a large number of  barking dogs.
  • Prefer a Predictable, Consistent, Familiar Dog Buddy: My dog boarding guests prefer to share a household with one familiar dog versus being in an active high-energy pack of unfamiliar dogs. They prefer being around dogs they have already been calmly introduced to, versus meeting a variety of unfamiliar dogs each day.
  • Shy and Fearful of Strangers: Your small, senior or special needs dog may also be a good fit for SoloDogs if your dog loves other dogs but is wary of strangers and needs time to add new humans to her/his “family” and you don’t want your dog to be forced to interact with different new people over the course of his or her boarding stay.
  • Premium/Luxury Dog Boarding: Perhaps your dog isn’t “special needs” but just you just want a top-notch dog boarding experience for your dog so that you can go on vacation guilt-free.
